Squating - belt or no belt?

Postby johno » Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:26 pm

Squating with out belt?

I have been squating with a belt to ensure my back is OK

Tonight I wanted to loose the belt, did this on the first two sets no problem.

Went to for teh belt on the last but the guy who spotted my persuaded me to leave it off saying it was better without.

Discuss please...

Better without...imo....

All about keeping the core tight and letting it do its job....keeping the spine inline.....

Now there probably will be a time when a belt is needed but not many of use are going to be using those monstrous poundages, plus another thing is to keep adding weight to the bar ever so slowly so that you don`t feel it too much and then get the urge to use a belt.....

Look at some of the old time strongmen and the weird exercises they did...all without the use of a belt....makes you think on`t it ;-)
