Bane has tried to add a 1.25kg plate to either end of the barbell every workout. However it cannot be done EVERY workout (not through lack of trying either!) Every other workout seems to work very well. Small regular increases are better than trying to bang on an extra 10kg every month.

agree with bane
and also wonder if you trained realy heavy for a week or two & had plenty rest before your normal training the next week would you be able to up your lifts by a couple of pounds
same as if you train heavy normaly & swapped to volume for a week or two

just going off my own experience after training heavy for years then swapping to volume my strength was on the up non stop come to think of it before my injury my strength was climbing all the time just by doing volume work
so when it stops i can come back to this thread for some good ideas

My experince as exactly as Bane.

On the big lifts I can ad 5kg for a couple of weeks then I get a big fail and have to back off and start again

This round of weights I have been adding 2.5kg (as Bane 1.25 each side)

Its a lot smaller jump and I feel I can cope with it, but over a period of time your weights creep up.

I aslo agree that at some point this might drop to 2.5kg/week or even 1.25kg and you will need rest weeks.

I am less versed on adding weight to the dumbbells as they go up in 5kg each! I need some washers or magnets to increase in smaller jumps

any old speakers or car speakers lying around use the magnets from them.........cheaper than plate mates etc

IS it dropping the weights down and doing more reps, then coming back to heavy a few weeks later?

Or just simple get more rest?
