strongman advice

Postby lil john » Mon Jul 18, 2011 3:05 pm

Hi guys

I'm getting back into training and I'm building a basic gym in my backgarden. This is going to have barbell, bench, kegs, sandbags, farmers etc

I've been think I'd do

Day 1- squats, deads, rows, pullups all higer reps
Day 2- bench, strict press, cg bench
Rest for couple days
Day 3- squats heavy, keg or sandbag walks, farmers
Day 4- log or clean and push press, pulls/pushes, loading

Now is it stupid to do 2 days of events type work? I know most people only do 1? Or shud I change my idea and have 1 event day and 3 gym.

Tho having the equipment there, can I incorprate strongman and gym training on the same days?

Cheers

I would say if done correctly 1 pure strongman events session is enough each week.

1 proper events session would be enough, though there would be nothing wrong with incorperating some events style implements in your normal workout

for example 1 of our strongmen at the gym worked shoulders yesterday which incorperated repeat log press and LP from very inclined bench, last week he worked a lot of OLY work so the clean wasnt needed to be worked

we dont have "events" planned until sunday....which will be a 3 hour workout very similar to a comp with heavier weights, more "competition" style events etc

forgot to add

also doing something like good mornings or bent rows with the lighter "atlas" stone would be ok in a full routine....then lifting and loading would be on the events day

like the low weight higer reps in week and heavier wieghts on events day

also been adviced, when doing the pressing in the gym stuff, use things like the thick bar or log etc
like the useing stones for GMs or rows

yes thats the way

axle/log/swiss bar/thick dumbells are all used in general workouts

dont neglect the olympic lifts...a great help in strongman events
