Circuit Training

Postby lil john » Wed Aug 28, 2013 12:31 pm

Been asked to help do a circuit workout.

Now I don't really know much about circuit work tbh how to lay it out etc. so here's why I think and any advice be welcome

Its for fitness and fat loss but as a general rule off top of my head I would follow-

Around 5-6 exercises
Skill exercises like cleans or squats or box jumps first
Mix strength with some speed

An example might be

Cleans 5 reps, farmers walks light 40m, tyre flipsx10, arm over arm 20m, push-ups x 10 and sprint Finnish 20m

Would it be a case if when first start maybe do the circuit twice and build up or even less exercises and build up

I wouldn't go with cleans as its a bit of a technical exercise & then your falling into the same category as Crossfit. The less technical the better for safety reasons.

Woul you keep the explosive and strength stuff as normal lifting then more movement like tires, arm over arm, farmers, sprint wen pull ups etc as a circuit?

Depends on their lifting experience & strength levels. If they are new then they might struggle form wise so switching to walking lunges etc would better suit along with bodyweight movements till they've built up a decent fitness base.

The more "technical" the sooner they are in the circuit. So squats or dead-lifts first & as people tire you could swap those for lunges & tyre flips. As example.
