Weightlifting, Stongman and powerlifting

Be intresting to hear some views on this

My personal dilemma, a love for powerlifting, weightlifting and strongman.

It would appear it is near impossible to train efficiently for all from what I'm being told.

My own goals are to become competitive at weightlifting while doing the odd strongman training aswell.

What would be the bet way for someone to go about this

Atm I train 3 times a week, will be having a collection of strongman equipment at a mates house so that can be done every couple of weeks. Have the movie comp booked for end of April and desperately trying to get my strength up as it is shockingly low. But then there is the Bergeron cup and northern opens to focus on for weightlifting

well training for strongman and powerlifting run hand in hand apart from the bench press which needs adding in and with the Oly ;lifting, well that creates the explosive power needed for strongman

Look at Ben Kelsey he has an OLy lifting back ground and smashed the 105 world championships

with the powerlifting its about technique as much as Oly lifting is so base your training round a good strength base and add in technique work for all 3 disciplines as and when needed

Yeah I always thought powerlifting and strongman went well together

I suppose my main thing is training 3 times a week is a bit much to fit it all in and work out how to keep progressing, learning the oly lifts and getting the strength up

Wasn't Kelsey's training 5 times a week, think I remember you posting it was a hell of a program

Atm my trainin looks a bit like-

Mon-
Snatch -no real set sets and reps
Squat 3x5 adding weight when completed the full reps
Btn Press 3x5 s/s rows 3x10 adding weight when reps completed

Wed-
Clean and jerk- same as snatch
Deadlifts 3x5 adding when completed
Overhead squats upto max

Friday-
Snatch
Clean and jerk
Front squats
If time pressing and rows

Friday will probably be alternating with weekend strongman events soon

I've also started some conditioning on workout morning

From memory Kelsey grouped the styles more didn't he? All oly one day, power lifts another etc

I found tho of Kelsey's

Monday - Squats, Strict press, Cleans, Assistance
Tuesday - Conditioning - Sprints, bounds, Kettlebells, circuits etc
Wednesday - Deadlift, Light squats, Push press, Assistance
Thursday - Conditioning - Sprints, bounds, Kettlebells, circuits etc
Friday - Front squat, C&J, Snatch, Bench
Saturday - Events or conditioning
Sunday - Catch up / technique work / whatever I feel like

Insane work load. I also always thought that conditonin is better on lifting days so the body has some time to recover on off days?

To be blunt I think you need to choose. Trying to train for Strongman, Weightlifting and Powerlifting will likely just leave you mediocre at all three. Pick one, pursue it for a while, do a couple of competitions see how you feel. I would suggest you focus on either weightlifting or powerlifting, both will provide you with a solid base if you want to try strongman later. Don't try to juggle all you won't be successful.

that's what I've been worrying.

its only really dead lifting that would be left out. it may turn out i just do my training for the weightlifting and go to my mates to do some events once or twice a month
