Ok fits question.....

Does your body need protein or carbs first thing in a morning?

Both i would say.

In the morning your body has been starved of that all important muscle building Protein,as the saying goes, your either anabolic or catabolic and you need to have a positive nitrogen balance to stay Anabolic.......

Your body also need carbs as they have also been diminshed over night and its what our nervous system/brain needs to kick start into gear.

Dont get me wrong id LOVE to just eat fresh fruit and yogart and not have a protein shake, but from all i have read and from what experianced people have told me, we need that extra protein. Breakfast for me is always a struggle to get in the protein so give me some hard facts and ill enjoy some yogart in the am from now on.

and dont forget im dieting (again) so want to control my insulin.

In my experience it depends on your goals,if bulking then yes, if trying to lose bodyfat I don`t eat unless I`m hungry and even then low to no carbs.

Strawberry Pancakes

50 grams oats
1 whole egg
6 egg whites
Sachet of rowntrees sugar free jelly- strawberry flavour (or whatever)

just blend the ass off it all and fry!

I usually get 3 plate sized pancakes out of this mix (depends on how thick / thin you want them) but the overall mix will give you the following values:

Nutritional breakdown
protein - 31g
carbs - 30g
fat - 10g

these bad boys are the berries

I must say this is probably the best post in the entire forum. I've used this recipe a couple of times - makes you want to go out and pull trucks/jumbo jets, especially when you slather some peanut butter on the pancakes and add chopped bananas... Thank you, Scott!

It's probably better not to drink protein shakes in the morning. I used to do that and didn't like it - and if you don't feel like drinking it it's a good signal from your body that it doesn't need it. You'll probably end up peeing it out.
