Postby lil john » Tue Jun 26, 2007 8:09 am

i need some ideas guys for breakfast, im tryin to cut down on my protein drinks, as i want to really just have them before and after training. and at mo i have them then and at breakfast

i have usually tho it changes abit

2 weetabix and 2 scoop protein powder drink.
sometimes toast with penut butter and protein drink.

i dont have alot of time int he morning, so anythin i can maybe make night before, like an omellete.(sp)
or what else would give me a good amount of protein, was thinking also cottage cheese, but i do have that before i go bed often.

any ideas please?

My favorite which keeps me going all morning:

HUGE (I bought a big bowl especially for this) bowl of porridge (Scott's Old Fashioned Porridge Oats: big chunky flakes so you kow you're eating something) with semi-skimmed milk. Zap it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Add any combination (or all) of the following:

Frozen raspberries/blueberries/strawberries
The above, but fresh (too expensive for me)
Mixed seeds & nuts
Raisins or any other dried fruit

Spices: nutmeg/cinnamon
Top it off with unsweetened Greek yoghurt.

Washed it all down with a cup or two of black, unsweetened filter coffee. Stand back and watch yourself grow ;-)

Just a dollop (about a spoonful). Nutrient-wise I don't know how much protein/fat/carb is in the bowl, but I feel satisfied after it and the energy is slow release so I don't get any blood sugar lows mid morning. The bowl is actually heavy to lift, so it's a real meal.

I recommend you start weight training! or use a lighter bowl

Sorry could resist

Totally agree tho, best breaky you can have that in my book but sometimes i go for a Tuna or cottage cheese smoothie, very quick to make and no problem making them the night before.

Another good one i used to make was oat pancakes

Oats
cottage cheese
eggs
milk
cinamin
splenda

I cant remember the exact amounts i had to mess around with it to get the correct mix but they are lovely! and can be mixed the night before

I'll try those pancakes. I've been perfecting my "unhealthy" pancake recipe for a couple of months now, but really need a better alternative. They tasted great but it showed on my waist  (although the butter & maple syrup didn't help) Here's a few I've just stolen off the net:

(When we start swapping knitting patterns shoot me)

Ingredients:

1 cup fat free milk (or water)
3/4 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup Oat Flour
1 tsp baking powder (optional)
1/4 tsp salt (optional)
4 large whites
1 tsp cinnamon, ground

Try these modifications:

Blueberry pancakes: Add 1/4 c blueberries (fresh or thawed) to recipe and omit cinnamon.

Oat-Nut pancakes: Add 1 1/2 tbsp diced pecans, walnuts, or almonds to recipe.

Whole Grain pancakes: Replace quick oats with hot multigrain cereal. Prepare as directed.

Directions:

Heat milk (or water) until hot, stir in oats and set aside.
Beat egg whites into a stiff foam with hand mixer or blender and reserve.
Mix remaining dry ingredients together and stir in oatmeal/milk mixture and oil (if used).
Fold in egg whites until mixture is well blended.
Spray pan with nonstick spray and cook pancakes until browned on both sides.

well if we are talking pancakes........

Strawberry Pancakes

50 grams oats
1 whole egg
6 egg whites
Sachet of rowntrees sugar free jelly- strawberry flavour (or whatever)

just blend the ass off it all and fry!

I usually get 3 plate sized pancakes out of this mix (depends on how thick / thin you want them) but the overall mix will give you the following values:

Nutritional breakdown
protein - 31g
carbs - 30g
fat - 10g
