Type of diet you are refering to is a cyclical carbohydrate ketogenic diet or cckd or ckd..

They are used a lot to drop weight and hopefully retain muscle.

Plenty of info on the net about them

I love low carb diets for dropping fat. A few tips to make it easier and more effective. 1) Take magnesium every day, this will help keep you regular. I like a tea called "Calm" and take it every night befor bed. Makes a huge difference. 2) Take a multi vitamin, calcium and chromium picolinate. These help regulate your blood sugar so you're not kicking the door down at waffel house after a few days. 3) If you really feel the need for more carbs, eat some fruit and avoid bread, rice and pasta until you hit your target weight of body fat percentage.
