whats the dealio with cans of tuna in brine and cans of tuna in spring water?
is brine really bad? wtf IS brine anyways?

Ive been eating a fair bit of tuna salads lately, the spring water version, but I just get those coz they 'sound' better dunno if theres much diff.

Brine is water saturated or nearly saturated with a salt (usually Sodium chloride).i always have it with brine as just been brought up with it haha and i hate it in oil. spring water prob is best?

so the tuna in brine would have a lot more salt in it? I guess if its packed in the stuff then the salt must seep into the tuna.

i think thats their thinking (marketing for their spring water ones), but i would imagine that there isnt too much salt absorbtion..............i always rinse of the tuna anyway


thats just my opinion.............probably totall saturated in salt!

Brine water is greater than 50 parts per thousand of sodium and equates to one cup of salt per gallon of water.

I always used to wash off the brine as much as possible when I ate tuna.

Don`t eat it much these days due to dieting on tins & tins of the stuff for comps sort of put me off & the smell used to make me feel like vomiting after 4 solids weeks of eating the stuff :lol:

Tell me bout it mate. I was pescetarian for a time and tuna was my main protein source. Taken me ages to be able to stomach it again :lol:

I have fell into the idea of buying my tuna in spring water instead of brine. But i feel my diet lacks salt anyway so don't mind buying the brine stuff even if only a bit of salt is absorbed as i don't wash it either.

I got yellow find tuna recently but for some reason it smelt more Fishy and I didn't like it!

If i can, i wash my tuna in brine through with water.

Tried tuna steaks a few times but never found them worth the extra cash

smae here, I used them all the time while on diatia. personaly i prefer tinned tuna! but that could have allot to do with me over cooking the steaks!
