Fish oil vs cod liver oil

In some reading I've been doing I've seen a lot about how good fish oils are.

Now I always thought fish oil and cod liver oil were the same but it appears not, which one is best to have? I currently take cod liver oil.

Some say fish oils because you can take in more Omega 3's without overdosing on vitamins A & D. On the other hand you have those that advocate larger doses of A & D because we can end up deficient in them due to our lifestyles. Doctor Mercola recommends Cod Liver Oil. Another thing is purity.
