I've been advised against low rep sets, against squatting, against deadlifting. I, apparently, squat too low, deadlift too much weight and cover everything unnecessarily with chalk (ok, guilty as charged of the last one  ) I've also been told by someone who couldn't squat half of what I could that I don't know how to squat properly. Everyones an expert

Yeah I always love listening in for a second or two when I see that happening in the gym. It can be quite comical.
I do train in a commercial gym for a few times during the week, but my workouts are so intense, so off the wall, very few people even approach me, and no one offers me advice. The best thing I found to remedy the problem in a commercial gym is a stop watch believe it or not. Just wrap that baby around your wrist and this keeps most of them away. If someone is stupid enough to start talking look at it and get to your sets. They move on to new prey real fast. Of course you could also just be a butthole, but that does not work for me since I do have a training business.
