Cool deal. I picked your bony legs right out

It seems to me that the road was plenty wide enough to handle all the runners and not have to run 2 heats for the mens division. Am I wrong?

Also, I though all you Brits went to events like this with mugs of ale in hand. Am I being stereo typical?

Yeah. Last years race was nearly 40 guys on the start line which meant there were 3 rows of us across the road. When they shout go it gets a little chaotic as guys rush forwards & across the road to get the inside line. Crazy I know but the top 10 guys are usually the same group most years pushing forward in that bunch. You don`t want a face plant incident with 50kg on your back or you`ll be forever known as "road kill" or "frying pan face"

There was a hell of a lot "beer" flowing that day. Probably one of the top 3 busiest days of the year for the 3 pubs on that strip of road.

Thanks.

We know the mistakes & weaknesses. Have 49 weeks to fix them before next race.

List of those that completed.

Finally got my name added after not seeing them at the end of the day.

http://www.gawthorpemaypole.org.uk/?page_id=82

Estimates for the day seem to be between 52 & 60 for the men`s races according to the local & regional papers.

If 52 is the correct figure then that would tie in with someone telling me that there were a load that just dumped their coal sacks at the half way mark completely knackered.

This helps to show how much this race means to so many local people, young & old. Whilst at the same time it is attracting competitors from all over the country.

Bumping an old thread.

Been curios on how the tv presenter / adventurer Ben Fogle got on when he did this in 2008. Managed to find a reference to him placing 22nd.

Not one to boast but I beat that when I ran it with one busted leg
