10k entry form submitted.

Have an eye on a sub 40 minute time for this one with it being very flat. Only negative is that my first half marathon is the following weekend. If I do go for sub 40 I know from previous races they'll be very little training done the following week to allow for full recovery.

A sub 40 would mean an improvement of 6 minutes in 18 months with close to another 10 minutes needing to come off if I'm to hit a podium place.

If you don't try you'll never know

First race number has turned up. Will be an interesting experiment trying to shoot for a PB with no running this last week  On a serious side it might highlight whether I have been over doing it & not allowing enough for full recovery. Next thing will be first half marathon in 2 weeks time & I haven't run over 60 minutes this year & the guys at work seem to think I could do it in 105 - 120 minutes. We'll see not going to go hell for leather on that one, the 10k is the main aim with the half more for experience before we go full tilt for Aprils race.

nerves starting to kick in or are you becoming more chilled about the approach of a race day?

A little. Some of that is down to the slow process of this knee issue being 100% so I can really go for it on the day without any niggling doubts in the back of my mind that the knee might hold me back.

Quite different approach not doing any running so close & me feeling like a caged lion chomping at the bit

Forecast is for heavy snow tomorrow then freezing temperatures during the night.

Could need racing spikes then to stay on my feet :lol Plan is to just enjoy Sunday's run & break back in after two weeks off with the knee/hamstring issue. No point shooting off to try set a new PB & end up not finishing the race or missing the half marathon next week.

Bigger fish to fry this year.

Stated snow about an hour ago. Flakes are slowly getting thicker & heavier. At this rate I can't see it being run. But you never know.

I know

Have to keep telling myself to just stick to the game plan & run at a gentle pace. Had moments this week were I could envisage a nice intake of coffee before the race then going like the clappers to smash sub 40

Race cancelled

Initially very disappointed but on reflection its not a bad thing. Its to be rescheduled for later in the year which still gives me time to use it to get a new 10k PB. Allows this injury a little more time to heal for next weeks half marathon attempt & gives me a chance to get a few smaller runs in next week beforehand.

From a negative we've just pulled a positive
