Iodine Question

Postby firebear369 » Fri Aug 29, 2008 2:24 pm

I've been using Sea Salt in cooking rather than the standard iodinized salt and I just read about some of the potential health issues that spring up from iodine deficiency

I don't really eat much seafood and I haven't been using any enriched flours.

My question is two part:

1) How much iodine does one actually need in the daily diet?

2) And how does one get that iodine when not using iodinized salt, seafood, or other food with iodine additives?

Sea salt actually does contain iodine (along with many other trace minerals), they are required by law to put that "no iodine" warning. It was pushed through by the big salt producers to try to turn consumers away from a natural product. They put artificial iodine in their salt, which is not as well absorbed or utilized by your body.
Spartan is the attitude, not your birthplace.

Imagine that

Kind of like "enriched flour" and the like. Okay, who's up for starting a natural food company of our own?
