Been looking into it a little more because normally its just a blackberry-apple-elderberry picking thing we do around autumn time for a few extra goodies to eat now or freeze for later use & have came across that you can eat hawthorn berries which apparently are high in pectin fibre which is good for the heart & cholesterol levels.

Quick check & it looks like rose hip & hawthorn berries can be added to the list of usable.

Our neighbor has a veg plot. They come every weekend and take away our horse manure for us and give us veg in return.

Back from a quick forage down fields with a few hawthorn berries & rose hips to try.

Net time I`ll look for a different recipe which does not require so much boiling as the excessive heat will reduce the amount of nutrients that are in there. A better type of cloth/muslin to filter through & maybe use honey instead of sugar.

Tastes all right though.

Sure I saw a recipe that tried to get round the problem to limit nutrient loss. Need to check internet history to see if I can find the site again.
